Who was Ho Chi Minh? |
Ho Chi Minh was born in 1890. In the Earlier life Vietnam used to be a colony part of France. Ho left Vietnam in 1911 as a cook on a French streamer. After several years on the streamer he lived in London and moved to France there he organized a group of Vietnamese immigrants, he went to French Conferences to demand the same rights to their subjects. After Germany was defeated Ho Chi Minh began an organization called the Viet Minh or also known as the League for Independence for Vietnam. When Vietnam was fighting for Independence from France, Ho Chi Minh asked the US for help since they once fought for their own independence as well, they would know how they felt but due to the US being allies with France they refused to help them. So Ho Chi Minh began to receive support from the Communists. He wanted to spread is communist beliefs, he wanted to become more powerful. He also eventually became the leader of North Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was a very important man for North Vietnam and was one of the people who the US tried very hard to stop.

Who was Ngo Dinh Diem?

Ngo Dinh Diem was born in 1901 with a family of noble Vietnamese Catholics. He was very loyal to the anti-Communist, He became president of South Vietnam in 1955 he was supported by the United States. They wanted to help him because they wanted to end the spread of Capitalism from not only coming to America but all over the world. After he became president the United States realized that Ngo Dinh Diem was not a person who was very cooperative and he rejected most of their support. Diem was a good president for most, but the number of people who disliked him grew because of his harsh beliefs. Diem promised to hold elections to see if the citizens wanted to reunite their government. Since Ngo Dinh Diem was a Catholic he would ignore the Buddhist which annoyed the large Buddhist population immensely. Ngo Dinh Diem imprisoned many Buddhist and most of them died, this caused him to lose the support of the US.
